Technique
Dental veneers, a thin ceramic prosthesis attached to the visible surface of the tooth, offer the possibility of transforming the aesthetic appearance of teeth without the need for dental crowns.
Definition :
First, depending on the case, the tooth is lightly prepared by removing a small amount of enamel. Next, a precise impression is taken to fabricate the customized veneer in the laboratory. A temporary veneer can be placed on the prepared tooth until the permanent veneer is ready. When the permanent veneer is ready, it is attached to the prepared tooth using adhesive dental cements.
Duration
The procedure usually requires two appointments, each lasting about one hour, although this varies with the number of teeth and the clinical situation.
At the first appointment, the enamel is prepared when required and an impression is taken so the dental laboratory can make the custom veneer.
At the second appointment, the veneer is tried in and its fit, shape and appearance are checked. It is then bonded to the tooth before final adjustments and polishing.
