PRF: platelet-rich fibrin

You may have heard of PRF, but do you know what it actually is?

What is PRF?

It is an advanced technique used in dental surgery and bone regeneration. It speeds up healing using your own blood.

The process produces a fibrin clot rich in platelets, growth factors and stem cells, which support healing over several days.

How does it work?

On the day of the procedure:

  • a few tubes of blood are drawn;
  • they are centrifuged;
  • a gelatinous PRF membrane is obtained;
  • it is applied to the treated area — a bone graft or an implant site, for example.

What are the benefits?

  • Faster healing.
  • Less pain, less infection, less bleeding.
  • Particularly useful for patients who heal with difficulty: smokers, people with diabetes, people with osteoporosis.
  • It can sometimes replace a palatal graft in mucogingival surgery.
  • In sinus lift procedures, it protects the sinus membrane.
  • After an extraction, it reduces swelling and pain.
  • In periodontics, it improves the healing of pockets.
  • In implantology, it improves tissue integration.

PRF puts your own biology to work for your healing: natural, safe and effective.
